Installing

During the test phase the app isn’t signed. Signing is a paid certificate that tells Windows who made an app. Until Modern Day Pioneer has one, your browser and Windows will ask you to confirm that you want it. The steps below show what to click. If you’d rather wait for a signed version, that’s fine too.

What you need

1. Download

  1. On the Download page, click Download for Windows. The setup file, Modern_Day_Pioneer_Setup.exe, downloads right away.
  2. Your browser may warn that the file “isn’t commonly downloaded”. In Microsoft Edge, click the … next to the download, choose Keep, then Show more and Keep anyway. In Chrome, choose Keep.

2. Accept the unsigned installer

  1. Open the downloaded file.
  2. Windows may show a blue box that says “Windows protected your PC”. This appears because the app isn’t signed yet, not because something was found in it.
  3. Click More info, then Run anyway.

3. Install and open

  1. Follow the installer. It takes about a minute.
  2. Open Modern Day Pioneer from the Start menu.
  3. To look around first, choose try the sample family on the first screen.

Updating

Install a newer version the same way, over the old one; you’ll see the same warnings while the app is unsigned. Your Journeys are kept. The first time a new version opens a Journey, it offers to make a backup; please say yes. Every earlier version stays on the download page in case you need to go back.

Removing the app

Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps in Windows, find Modern Day Pioneer, and choose Uninstall. Your Journey folders and backups are not removed; delete them yourself if you no longer want them.
